You had to switch out your caught pokemon with some shadow to balance your team and be ready to capture other, higher leveled shadow pokemon at all times.Something worth mentioning was that the very last battle of Pokemon XD involved trying to capture 3 shadow legendaries in addition to 3 other non-legendary shadow pokemon (some with specialized attack stats) that were all 5-7 levels above you all in a single battle.
