Wide open and well marked. I did the 5.5 mile loop and once at the top, all the views were amazing. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 30-foot-high fire tower was constructed in 1936 to keep watch over the Bradshaw Mountains.The tower is open to visitors when a lookout is on duty, but even if you don’t get to tour inside the tiny cabin, the cliffs at its base showcase equally impressive panoramic views of surrounding mountain lakes and green valleys. The road hike is fringed with pines, oaks and firs, but no spruce trees. Decide whether you want to take the Oak Shortcut (steeper) or the regular ascent to the top of the butte. The trail system provides immediate access to fun terrain and views. If you are concerned about social distancing on the trail, be fair warned that the trail is narrow and busy and it does not appear to be the custom for those passing close (within a foot or two) to mask up. Arrive early. Very sunny and hot but enjoyable hike for sure! Almost without exception some regulars or other people sitting near who may be traveling, will join the conversation. Drive west toward Palmer Park, past the Greenland Open Space parking area, across the railroad track. If you were to take this road down, you could turn right at the bottom and return to the trailhead along Eagle Pass Trail.1. Lots of people but it was a beautiful Saturday so that was expected. To continue on to Spruce Mountain, pass the gate, head left and follow the dirt road 1.4 miles uphill. As a novice hiker, the trail leading to the rocky cliffs was challenging for me but well worth it for the views at the top. This marker is dedicated to a gentleman who did much to promote conservation in Douglas County. Spruce Mountain Trail is a 10.5 kilometer moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Prescott, Arizona that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate.
