I started with this company as a lead tech at 22 hr. He loves working in this field. No hvac unions in my area that I know of.
I'm considering working towards a career in one of the skilled trades, and one of the ones I keep hearing about is the HVAC technician/installer. and by the way how many hours a week do they work 50? Its a responsibility that must be taken seriously.I having been in the car industry knew first hand responsibility as people have the ability to sue you should there be negligence on the part of a tech working on a car. In the past, I have had jobs in roofing, Jiffy Lube, bartending, serving, restaraunt management, and sales. Even doing change outs can be pretty interesting. I’ve been told by some hvac guys to look for apprenticeships within some companies but I could never find any. Hey it was easy money cars were my other love I bit the bullet and dived in full. I was fortunate as this was BEFORE the crash of 08 after a couple years I saw a posting for the HVAC dept and through some fighting and several interviews I did get the job.
But in all seriousness. When it comes to plumbing there are 3 rules - 1)poop rolls downhill.
Perhaps you're st the wrong company? Provide technical support in the field. Your in the state with medical going crazy you can't get "inside as an in-house apprentice" I'm knocking on the door of 50 years old and I got in, if your in Mass they are loaded with healthcare and then there's even Cape Cod way?? I made 52k my first year and expect 80k by my 5th. card. Result I do land that job @ Trane but as a sheet metal installer / tech. Lift sensible (when I was in automotive guys were hurting themselves constantly you can hurt yourself being a weekend warrior!) It's all the same in construction work. You will , when your busy , live out of your truck.

I don't any place in the country that is paying even 10 dollars an hour, if so you need to move. In-fact it is a state requirement in many states yet nothing in others. The explosion alone is equal to an M100 blowing up in your face so you'll lose your hearing for sure at the minimum! I am considering HVAC has a career and, because of COVID I now have a lot of free time so I decided to start self-learning HVAC so as to get a better idea if it’s the right career for me. You'll need formal training to work as an HVAC technician. I'm of the minded that a really good TIG welder can make more money than a good hvac guy or at least equal but the welder won't be killing himself, breaking his back.
Most companies will give you truck and gas card . Fact: I am in the $30 hr range. I took HVAC at Algonquin in 2013. I’ve gone 3 weeks ( 3 on call nights ) without a single call. If I get an emergency call when I'm asleep they leave a message and we call them first thing in the AM.Lots of companies want techs to sell.
Most companies are very sales driven these days.
If I get a call on 10pm on Friday night telling me to be there at 6am Saturday then I'm working Saturday. An hvac guy can always do plumbing.
