I won't advise you about the cabinets as I can see both perspectives - I had very dark stained wood cabinets and had them painted and don't regret it one bit (FWIW I painted them a dark color), but as others have said, lighter wood is 'trending', whatever that means to you ;) As others have also said, the backsplash is too dark next to those counters. I had to laugh at your be honest about the ledge comment on the drawing. Also as others have said - no kitchen will be fabulous with a dog kennel, incongruous chairs (I think the table can work, with different chairs), and wall décor that looks like the common room at a college dorm. I have 4 little kids; believe me, I get it. Having an air return in each bedroom provides better overall air circulation, especially if anyone wants to sleep with the bedroom door closed.Moving that vent to wall is possible but quit expensive and not a diy project. Or insulate the interior of the closet wall?A vent isn't hard to extend. I added the current counter edge and current door and doorway measurements, and the space between the wall and the window. Right now the condo does have two small, walk in closet type pantries, and a lot of stuff can go in there.

The wall we were thinking of moving it to is directly above. If it's a warm air vent then he needs to be very careful to seal the wall space, so that no air escapes upward (and possibly into the attic). I want to build a small wall at the same location and have the heat exit out of the base of that wall. If it's a cold air return then this sounds fine -- it's done all the time. Your comments about the preferred depth of pantries intrigued me.
